Worship Arts Ministry
Our worship services include talented individuals who lovingly share their gifts through the Worship Arts Ministry. Serving opportunities exist in almost all areas of the creative arts, including instrumental music, vocal music, drama, dance, video, stage design, and service directors. In all cases interested artists should click the link below for an application. If you have the appropriate gifts and experience to participate in this community of artists, we want you here! We want this to be a place where your heart, your relationships, and your gifts thrive!
- Music

• Choir
***Next rehearsal MARCH 18, 2012 from 3:00-5:00 pm in the auditorium. Music packets and sign up available at The HUB.***
No specific skills needed beyond a love for singing. Involvement in the choir includes monthly rehearsals and involvement in weekend services 5 to 6 times a year. This group offers a great ‘entry level’ place for vocalists to get started. Vocalists who begin here can always ask for another audition if they feel ready to move to the next level.• Worship Team
Vocalists on this level must be accomplished and experienced singers; they need to have basic music reading skills and be able to sing harmonies well without supporting vocalists around them. They must also be good communicators who are comfortable with a microphone and on stage. Vocalists on this level can always ask to be reconsidered for soloist responsibilities.• Soloists
To participate on this level, vocalists must meet all of the requirements above but also have strong abilities as a soloist. Soloists also must be excellent communicators and very comfortable with a microphone and on stage. This will most likely mean that they have significant experience as soloists in other settings before coming to Bay Pointe, but not necessarily. Participation at this level will be determined at the audition.• Band/Instrumental
Bay Pointe does not currently have a church ‘orchestra.’ This means that the instrumentalists we are looking for would either be rhythm section players (drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, keyboards) or be instrumental players (sax, flute, violin, trumpet, trombone, cello, etc.) who are able to solo and improvise around a chord chart. In addition to the personal and spiritual responsibilities listed above, instrumental musicians need to be able to read chord charts well. Note reading is not required, but is strongly encouraged. Instrumentalists should be comfortable playing in multiple styles, at least with the help of hearing a recording and reading the chart. For rhythm section players, the ability to ‘solo’ is not necessary, but is certainly a great addition! For more information about our how you can get involved within the Worship Arts Ministry, please contact Polly Sonneveldt, Programming Administrative Assistant, at psonneveldt@bponline.org 231.922.9882, ext. 118 or call the Bay Pointe offices, 231.922.9882.
- Dance/Drama/Stage Design

• Dance
Our dance ministry is very much in its infant stages, but our desire to build this area is strong. We have some wonderfully gifted dancers who contribute beautifully to our services 5 or 6 times a year, and we would love to see that grow. We are particularly interested in finding someone to lead this ministry. To participate in this area, a strong background in dance training would be required, as well as the meeting of the personal and spiritual requirements above.• Drama
In addition to the personal and spiritual requirements above, participants in the drama ministry must be gifted actors and actresses. No previous experience is necessary, although it certainly is helpful. If you have a passion to see drama come alive on the church stage, we’d love to talk to you. Drama is usually used once a month at Bay Pointe, with each sketch usually requiring two rehearsals. Not everyone is required for every sketch, so time commitments stay very manageable in this area. If you have experience in drama directing, we’d be especially interested in meeting with you.• Stage Design
This team is responsible for creating the ‘look’ on stage for each new series. They work closely with the lighting team to make sure the stage looks fresh, different and beautiful each month. They also create the drama sets we use from time to time. If you have a background in stage design, interior design, light construction or have skills in an area that you think would be useful to this team, we would love to meet with you!For more information about our how you can get involved within the Worship Arts Ministry, please contact Polly Sonneveldt, Programming Administrative Assistant, at psonneveldt@bponline.org 231.922.9882, ext. 118 or call the Bay Pointe offices, 231.922.9882.
- Service Director

• Service Director
Our service directors are the very gifted leaders on our team who call the cues for each service. They are the ones responsible for making sure the entire service runs smoothly; from sound and lighting cues to the placement and removal of people and props on stage, they coordinate all of our technical teams, via headset, to make the entire service work. This is a position that requires high people skills and a strong ability to manage multiple details simultaneously. If you have strong experience in event coordination, drama directing, or technical producing, this would be a great area for you.For more information about our how you can get involved within the Worship Arts Ministry, please contact Polly Sonneveldt, Programming Administrative Assistant, at psonneveldt@bponline.org 231.922.9882, ext. 118 or call the Bay Pointe offices, 231.922.9882.
- Technical

• Video Team
Bay Pointe’s video team is committed to catching people’s stories on film.Whether it be a creative piece, a man-on-the-street interview, or someone’s personal testimony, this team is committed to capturing those moments on film for the rest of the community to see. Some experience in video production is required, whether it be in sound, lighting, camera operation, or video editing.• Digital Video Cameraman
The cameramen record the worship service and set up cameras, sound links to sound boards, sound links to multi-media and television monitors to lobby for parents with crying infants. The digital tapes of worship serve as the source for archiving our existence and are used in future multi-media presentations.• Multi-Media Engineer
Engineers run projection screen elements. They are responsible for set up and tear down of all computer, video, projector and converter units linked to the worship experience. Volunteers need to have enough computer literacy to run simple word processor, lyrics software, and more complex Power Point software presentations and should be able to operate the video player with cueing for display to the projector. A thorough and working knowledge of all hardware and software units is necessary to volunteer in this role.• Lighting Team Member
The lighting team sets up and operates lighting systems. They position and adjust lighting cans and gels on stage, as well as program and store lighting patches (setups) for specific Bay Pointe thematic set ups. The team also operates the lighting board and works to create artistic and pleasing displays that bring focus to all programming presentations. Lighting team members add beauty, energy and vitality to the look of the Bay Pointe worship sanctuary.• Sound Engineer
The sound engineer oversees the sound reinforcement system and trains apprentices. He or she also engineers and mixes sound reinforced elements. Volunteers must have a working knowledge of all sound system units (i.e., effects units, wireless EQ, etc.) and must be able to isolate problems that are inhibiting the experience of the listener. This volunteer takes input from the music director and the worship leader on sound mix and levels, and synthesizes this information with his or her own experience to come up with the total sound quality.• Sound Team Apprentice
Sound team apprentices are those who are interested in a future role as a sound engineer. Apprentices will learn how to put the sound system together and how it functions and will assist the sound engineer by setting up microphones, running CDs and taping the service on audiocassette. By observing the process of mixing and processing sound for all music and communication elements, apprentices will come to understand sound concepts and will progress to engineering sound with the trained Sound Engineer observing your progress. For more information about our how you can get involved within the Technical Department, please contact Glenn Floering, Technology Director, at gfloering@bponline.org 231.922.9882, ext. 116 or call the Bay Pointe offices, 231.922.9882.
