Next Generation — MOSAIC, grades 9-12

Next Generation — MOSAIC, grades 9-12

Bay Pointe’s Student Ministry exists to be a community that loves God, grows young people and reaches those who don’t know Jesus.

LOVING
Mosaic is specifically designed for high school students where they’ll find engaging worship, challenging teaching, connection opportunities with adult leaders who genuinely care about them while building lasting friendships with other students

GROWING
Students are consistently challenged to investigate beginning a relationship with God or to go deeper as a follower of Jesus. Mentored by adult leaders, students will learn more about the Bible and how a personal relationship with Christ can impact their daily lives.

REACHING
Students will have opportunities throughout the year where they can step out into the community to make a positive impact for Christ. Students will be involved in community service projects, mission trips, winter camps, and Operation Serve (our annual day of community service). Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to serve others as an extension of their spiritual growth.

• Worship Team Auditions – Feb 13
If any students currently in 6th – 12th grades are interested in being a part of the Fuse and Mosaic Worship Team (Wednesday nights), auditions will take place on February 13 from 4-8 pm. Music packets are available at the Next Gen table. If interested, contact Justin VanRheenen.

• Open Mic Night – Feb 22
On February 22, we’ll be having a student Open Mic Night. All students are invited to participate! If you have a talent you’d like to share – music, art, poetry, dance – sign up! We want to hear from you. Contact Rachel Mavis or sign up at Fuse or Mosaic on Wednesday evenings.

• Freedom Sunday – Feb 26
There are more people enslaved today than at any other point in human history. The statistics are staggering: 600,000-800,000 men, women and children are trafficked across international borders each year. Sunday, February 26, is “Freedom Sunday” – a day set aside to bring light to such a devastating issue, but also a day to pray… for those who are enslaved, for those who are responsible, and also for those of us who are capable of making a difference. Thousands of churches across the world will participate.

In partnership with Bay Pointe’s Compassion Ministries and Freeset, (a Bay Pointe partner ministry), Student Ministries will provide a special way for you to make a difference. Students will be selling watches that have “I Won’t Watch” written on them – meaning that we won’t stand by and watch the injustice around us – we will bring change. For every watch sold, a portion of the proceeds will benefit student mission trips this summer, while a portion will also directly benefit Freeset. Freeset is located in the heart of the Red Light District in Kolkata, India, and offers alternative employment to women trapped in the sex trade industry.

Stop by the Nex Gen Student Ministries table in the lobby on February 26 and choose to NOT watch the injustice, but to help us bring change!

  • Join us Wednesday Nights!

Each week, Mosaic students are welcome to attend our Wednesday night gatherings from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Mosaic is specifically designed for high school students where they’ll find engaging worship, challenging teaching, connection opportunities with adult leaders who genuinely care about them while building lasting friendships with other students.

  • UNITE

UNITE is a community-wide youth worship night, occurring 3-4 times per year. All students in 6th – 12th grades from all denominations and churches in the greater Traverse City area are invited to attend! Our next UNITE event will take place on February 29, 2012 at Bay Pointe Community Church. Join the fun – hope to see you there!

  • Operation SERVE

Operation SERVE — Once a year, our students spend a day serving within the community. Projects vary from serving at nursing homes, yard work, light construction, painting, and helping those in need. This day also serves as a fundraiser for the students through pledges from family, friends, and the church body. The money raised supports the mission trips the students attend.

  • Student Mission Trips

Each summer, students have the opportunity to attend a mission trip to another community, whether domestic or international. Student missions trips are a means to visualize needs in other communities and bring that recognition back to serve Traverse City. After a week spent in service, students will leave transformed from the love, strength and resilience they find in those they meet. Short term missions are often more life changing and impacting for the students than those they came to serve!

    Upcoming Student Mission Trips:

Chicago, Illinois, July 8th – 14th (instead of Miami).
The location for the Mosaic summer mission trip has changed – we are now scheduled to go to the greater Chicago area July 8th – 14th (instead of Miami).

There are plenty of openings for students, so if you’re currently in 9th – 12th grade and would be interested in a mission trip this summer, we’d love to have you on our team! Parents, we also welcome you to attend with your student. If you have a student who is interested in attending, please contact Rachel for updated details at rmavis@bponline.org.

Retreats provides an excellent opportunity for students to focus intensively on their spiritual lives while developing important relationships with their peers. Our overnight or weekend retreats enable participants to interact with their peers in an informal environment, building trust and support, while intentionally taking time to connect with God and each other. Stay tuned for information regarding the next retreat.
