Bay Pointe Community Church is a board-governed, staff-led congregation. The Board of Elders, nominated from the church body, ensures that the church’s mission is being met and pursued. The church staff determines the means by which the mission is accomplished within board-defined limitations.

TYLER CERNY

Tyler Cerny and his family returned to Traverse City in 2004 after living in Chicago and Milwaukee for 7 years where they attended Willow Creek and Elmbrook Church. Tyler owns Strata Design, a local casework manufacturing company, that makes cabinets and countertops for healthcare, educational and retail purposes. Tyler and his wife, Jen, are high school sweethearts from Traverse City and graduates of Michigan State University. Tyler also has a MBA from Loyola University. They have 3 daughters that keep them very busy, Olivia (9), Ella (6) and Lilly (3). Tyler enjoys golfing, boating, snowboarding, cooking and fixing things. He is honored and excited to serve Bay Pointe as an elder.

Steve Greenman is a lifelong resident of Northern Michigan. He and his wife Kim have two sons – Eric (14) and Matthew (8). Steve is currently attending graduate school at the University Center in Traverse City through Western Michigan University striving for his Master’s in Community Counseling with a specialization in Substance Abuse Counseling. Steve graduated from Michigan State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology & American/World/Russian History. Steve just recently received his certificate for teaching renewal and is eligible to teach secondary education. His passions include his family, reading, writing, music and last but not least his beloved Detroit Tiger’s. Steve’s family has been attending Bay Pointe for just less than 4 years and has found peace, joy & spiritual growth abundant by being able to worship with all of their fellow Bay Pointe brothers and sisters in Christ.

Larry & Mickey Grooters

Larry and Mickey Grooters Larry was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Hope College and during his senior year decided to attend seminary instead of pursuing a graduate degree in Psychology. He graduated from Western Theological Seminary and served congregations in Morrison, IL; Rockford, MI; Scottsdale, AZ; and Charlevoix, MI. During their time in Charlevoix, Larry’s wife, Mickey, commuted to Traverse City and taught Composition and Literature at NMC for 25 years. During a part of that time she also served as Chair of the Communications Discipline and as Director of the Honors Program. After 40 years in ministry, Larry and Mickey moved to Traverse City. They have been married for 47 years and have three grown children and seven grandchildren. Mickey played an active role in Larry’s ministry, doing everything from producing the bulletin in their first church to speaking from the pulpit in their last church. Both are very involved at Bay Pointe through life groups and the prayer ministry.

JIM JOHNSON

Jim Johnson retired to the Traverse City area after careers as a computer systems manager and Naval Reserve officer. Jim graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration. He and his wife Ann have a grown son and daughter, Mike and Nancy, and two young grandchildren. Jim currently chairs the Elder Board.

Scott Snable and his family have lived in Traverse City since 2000. They’ve been a part of Bay Pointe for the past seven years. Scott’s wife, Gail, is a Graphic Designer/Illustrator employed at a marketing company in Traverse City. They have two daughters, Lexie and Maddie. Scott owns his own business, an internet marketing company. He enjoys golfing, boating on Lake Leelanau, kayaking, and participating in any sport. He is honored to serve on the elder board and loves observing the impact Bay Pointe has made in the Traverse City area.
